PressDisplay is now PressReader – read newspapers and magazines around the world

PressReader (formerly known as PressDisplay) provides you unlimited access to more than 5000 newspapers and magazines around the world, from 100+ countries, in 60+ languages, all on your own smartphone, tablet and laptop. Access is open  up to 90 days of back issues for each title. Three simultaneous users are allowed.

By registering a free account, you can customize your news feed, take advantage of social sharing, set up email alerts, comment on articles and bookmark them. Browsing, keyword search, instant translation and possibility for listening the text are available without registering.

The PressReader app can be downloaded into your mobile device. If you have downloaded newspapers or magazines to your own device on the university network, you can read them later offline as long as you like. Beside offline reading of downloaded material there is a true anywhere-anytime access called Radiant Access. If you open PressReader app on the university Wi-Fi, the Radiant Access provides you the access to whole PressReader content for 72 hours via your own Internet connection.

HotSpot Map tells you all places in the world PressReader is available. On HotSpots you can use PressReader with your own device via PressReader app, if you are allowed log in the local Wi-Fi as a guest. With a web browser you can anytime and anywhere log into PressReader via Nelli portal of the University of Eastern Finland (please, log in to the remote access first).

Virhe JBI CoNNECT+ -viitteiden viemisessä RefWorksiin / Error in exporting references from JBI CoNNECT+ to RefWorks

Viitteiden suorasiirto JBI CoNNECT+ -tietokannasta (Ovidin käyttöliittymä) RefWorks-viitteidenhallintajärjestelmään ei toimi oikein, vaan tuottaa tyhjiä viitteitä. Ovid selvittää ja korjaa virhettä.

The direct export of references from JBI CoNNECT+ database (Ovid user interface) to RefWorks reference management software results in blank references. Ovid is currently working on rectification.

Vuodenvaihteen e-aineistomuutoksia / Changes in databases: Agricola, Medline, PsycARTICLES

ProQuestin monialaisen tietokantapaketin konsortiotilaus on uudistettu vuoden vaihteessa. Maataloustieteiden viitetietokanta Agricola ei valitettavasti enää sisälly kansallisen elektronisen kirjaston FinElibin neuvottelemaan pakettiin.  Paketista jää pois myös lääketieteen Medline-tietokanta, mutta sen käyttö jatkuu toisen välittäjän (OVID) kautta.

Psykologian PsycARTICLES-lehtitietokannan välittäjä vaihtuu kilpailutuksen seurauksena. OVIDin käyttöliittymässä toiminut palvelu on jatkossa käytettävissä ProQuestin käyttöliittymässä.

The consortial subscription of the ProQuest’s multidisciplinary database package has been renewed. Unfortunately, the reference database Agricola (mainly agriculture) is no longer included into the package negotiated by the Finnish National Electronic Library FinElib. In addition, the medical database Medline is no longer included into the subscribed package, but you can still access it via another supplier (OVID).

The supplier of the psychological journal database PsycARTICLES has changed. From now on, the PsycARTICLES can be used on ProQuest’s interface instead of OVID’s interface.

Ebraryn lukuohjelma uudistuu / New ebrary reader

Ebrary on käytössämme oleva kansainvälinen e-kirjapalvelu, jossa on luettavissasi yli 110 000 e-kirjaa useilta tieteenaloilta. Linkit kirjoihin löytyvät Josku-tietokannasta. Ebraryn kirjoja voit lukea suoraan nettiselaimessa. Voit myös koota palveluun oman kirjahyllyn ja lisätä kirjoihin omia merkintöjäsi. Lisäksi sinun on mahdollista tulostaa osia kirjoista.

Selainlukuohjelma uudistuu viikolla 39 (22.9. alkava viikko)

Eri toiminnot löytyvät entistä helpommin, ja mikäli haluat ladata kirjan offline-käyttöä varten esim. läppäriin tai tablettiin, ohjelma opastaa tarvitun lukuohjelman valinnassa.

Offline-käytössä käytetyt lukuohjelmat (Adobe Digital Editions ja Bluefire Reader) eivät muutu.

Ebrary is a wide multidisciplinary e-book collection, which provides more than 110,000 e-book titles. You can find links to all ebrary titles on Josku database. Ebrary e-books can be read on a web browser. You can also e.g. create a bookshelf of your own for ebrary titles, add notes and highlight text. Parts of e-books can be printed out, too.

A new ebrary reader will be launched on a week 39 (22.9. onwards)

You will find the most used features faster, and if you want to download an e-book for an offline use e.g. on laptops or mobile devices, reader will guide you to choose the right reader program.

Reader programs used with offline use are same as earlier (Adobe Digital Editions and Bluefire Reader).

Scopus: käyttöliittymä uudistuu / new user interface

Scopus on monialainen viittaus- ja tiivistelmätietokanta, jonka aihealueina ovat biotieteet, lääke- ja terveystieteet, fysikaaliset tieteet sekä yhteiskunta- ja käyttäytymistieteet. Scopuksen löydät kirjaston Nelli-portaalista. Nyt palvelun käyttöliittymä on uudistumassa, ja uudistuksen pitäisi astua voimaan 1.2.2014. Uudistuksen tarkoituksena on helpottaa ja nopeuttaa tietokannan käyttöä. Lista tulevista parannuksista on alempana englanniksi.

Scopus is a large abstract and citation database covering Life Sciences, Health Sciences, Physical Sciences, Behavioural Sciences and Social Sciences. Scopus can be found on the Nelli portal of the University of Eastern Finland Library. The user interface will be resigned, and the new interface of Scopus is going live in the beginning of February 2014. The primary goal of the redesign is to streamline the number of steps a researcher needs to take to accomplish the most common tasks.

Specific enhancements include:
– Implementation of a new visual style resulting in a cleaner overall user interface
– Application of more action-driven functionality with some features only appearing when a user performs an action
– Redesign of specific pages such as the Document Results, Document Details (Abstract), and Author and Affiliation pages
– Enhancements to export options and the ability to export directly to research management tools such as Mendeley
